Saia Partners with Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Taking the fight against breast cancer on the road

JOHNS CREEK, Ga., May 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Saia, Inc. (Nasdaq: SAIA) is pleased to announce the launch of a unique yearlong breast cancer awareness campaign, "Saia on the Road with Susan G. Komen for the Cure."

Saia, a leading less-than-truckload carrier, has dedicated a 53 foot trailer that features artwork designed to raise awareness about the disease and the need for increased research to find a cure. As the "pink truck" travels throughout the United States, its progress will be tracked both online and on the back of the trailer.

On May 14, the pink trailer was unveiled during the campaign kick-off, which was held at Saia headquarters in Johns Creek, Ga. Nearly 150 supporters and employees were on hand to celebrate the trailer's unveiling by Saia President and CEO Rick O'Dell including guest speaker and WXIA anchor Karyn Greer; Kelly Dolan, executive director of Susan G. Komen for the Cure's Atlanta affiliate; Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker; and several local dignitaries including members of the Johns Creek City Council. During the kick-off, Bodker presented O'Dell with a mayoral letter of recognition in honor of Saia's efforts to increase breast cancer awareness.

Tremendous strides have been made in the fight against breast cancer, but the road to a cure remains long. Susan G. Komen for the Cure estimates that in the year 2008, 182,460 women in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and 40,480 women will die from the disease. While all women are at risk of developing breast cancer, early detection can play a key role in lowering the risk of mortality.

"Unfortunately it is hard to find someone whose life hasn't been touched by breast cancer. Whether they were directly affected or watched a loved one battle this devastating disease, both the physical and emotional impact of breast cancer is tremendous," said Sally Buchholz, Saia's vice president of marketing and customer service. "Saia recognizes the role increased awareness, education, and research will have toward eradicating breast cancer and we are committed to helping Susan G. Komen for the Cure reach that goal."
